  • Welcome to my blog!

Hi my name is Lisie, & I am the photographer for Caught by a Flash Photography. My life's passions are horses, art, & photography. Photography started out as a hobby, but has since grown into a career. I find photography to be an extension of my artistic passions. It also allows me to tell a story; capturing life's precious moments and developing them into lasting memories. I love what I do & feel so grateful to be doing this! When not taking pictures, I can be found spending time with my husband, 3 Corgi's, or riding my horse.

The blog has been long over due for an update….and this particular news is just the time for a new post! The past month I have been bursting at the seams with exciting news to share with you all! Caught by a Flash Photography has officially opened a STUDIO! We are located right off of Joppa Road, within easy access of the beltway and Harford and Baltimore Counties. I can’t wait to bring in clients to see this wonderful space and to enjoy some fun in front of the camera! We are fully equipped for newborn, children, seniors, families, couples, businesses, and yes even pet portraits! I am anxiously looking forward to capturing your memories with our unique props, backdrops, and floors! Not only is the studio equipped with professional studio lights, but their is also gorgeous natural light coming through the windows; perfect for portraits and newborns!

I couldn’t wait to share some pictures with you of the space! Their are so many projects that went into putting this space together and I could not have completed this without my creative and very handy husband! He has put so many hours into the space, and I am so grateful for all he has done! He helped build a wood floor, backdrop wall holder, studio light tracking system, picture hanging system, wall moulding, corner shelf…and the list goes on!;-)He has truly captured my vision and made it into a reality! Thank you dear hubby for supporting and creating my dream! Love you!!

My theme for the studio was to design a shabby chic space with plenty of antique and vintage accents, along with some new pieces. I wanted to keep things pretty cohesive throughout, keeping with a turquoise and brown theme that also flows nicely with my website, business cards, & packaging.

My husband and I had many adventures finding so many unique items for the studio, all at various antique stores in PA and MD. Along with the antique stores, I was able to obtain many gorgeous pieces from my favorite resource Etsy! Seriously though I think I might need to have a therapy session for my addiction to this site!:-) From shabby chic pillows, converted mason jars, lavender sachets, crocheted rugs….really anything you can think of I was able to find pieces that just fit right in with my style!

Organization was also a key element to designing the space; along with a closet shelving system in the closest holding plastic containers labeled for easy viewing, and a simple wood unit holding colored fabric bins which are labeled as well! I also purchased an unfinished table that I stained and easily will store other items as needed.  I want to be able to find everything easily and know what I have on hand!:-)

I can’t wait for my clients to come in and experience the studio! In the meantime though I have attached a few glimpses into the studio space! Oh and the studio bathroom…well that is a post for another day! That too has received a face lift! :0)

Please let me know what you all think of the space!  Love you all! You too have helped me make it to my dream!

( Studio Address: 1832 East Joppa Road, Suite 2A, Baltimore, MD 21234 *by appointment only)

I love the backdrop stand! holds so many backdrops and so easy to use! thanks hubby!
the awesome victorian settee was found at the Old Mill Antique Store! Awesome place and great people!

this is the main focal point of the studio, the first thing you see when you come in! and I absolutely love all the frames and
especially the yellow frame from Woodgrain Designs!
the table I bought unfinished, stained it, and added the furniture appliques!:-)

the tiebacks are so sweet and different; from SwagMags on Etsy! ! Love them! the ladder is from a favorite store of mine Belle Patri

my husband built the awesome holder for my floors! & the sweet horse?! How cute?!! From Woolies!

and just a few more vintage accents

Please share this and pass it on!  until next time… Keep living life to its fullest!

Brittany, we found the overhead system online, I am pretty sure just a simple google search. I do like it so far! It keeps all of the cords nicely out of the way!

{ new vintage finds & a special project! } Harford County, Maryland Custom Portrait Photographer

so what is this post about…? nope not my typical post session sharing… this one will be about something very special in the making! I love everything vintage, or better yet, anything truly antique. It inspires me as every piece has a story to tell, and very often speaks to me. Antiques have a past, and should be cherished for years to come. I love it when I find a piece that isn’t quite perfect, and shows some character. Who knows where these pieces have traveled? Perhaps all over the country, and I only hope I can use these unique props to create a new story, while still remembering its past.  When creating a “story” with any vintage prop I also hope that I am somehow creating a lasting memory, both for my client and my photography.

So long story short…finding unique and interesting pieces is not always easy! I recently ventured back to PA over the last couple of weeks, seeking after some unique and interesting pieces. While I was there my hubby and I discovered the  Old Mill Antique Store, which turned out to be quite a gem! We found a lovely piece of Victorian furniture, which I can’t wait to share with you all, BUT that is something for another post on another day.;)As a result of joining their facebook page a hot little item was posted just a few days after our fun visit!  A very unique vintage buggy! Perfect for photographing with my clients children or newborns! This was one piece that I just had to snatch! So back we went to PA!

As a result of this lovely little find, my concept for wanting to do a styled vintage shoot was born! I was able to pull together a few other fun vintage finds from some other shops in PA, &  just need to pull together a few more small pieces and planning the date and location will be next! I also found some absolutely adorable outfits that will shortly be on order! In addition I don’t think a model search will be necessary as I have a sweet little girl in mind for the concept session.:)I cannot wait to share this session with you! So within the next few spring months, I hope for the vintage photo shoot to become a reality!

{ Larz & Pip! } Harford County, Maryland Custom Pet Portrait Photographer

What could be cuter than a Mini Chihuahua in a Tea Cup & a beautiful Australian Shepherd sitting pretty on a tufted green bench?! Hmmm well maybe there are other things just as cute, but who can resist these 2 cuties? Larz & Pip both came to our studio for some fun in front of the camera! Both were so well behaved for the camera & props! Larz was fun as he is so cute and tiny we were able to use some of my fun props to pose with! Pip’s color went perfectly with one of my blue rugs and backdrops, and looked so elegant sitting pretty on a tufted green bench and brown damask backdrop, her color just made her pop no matter what I put behind her!

I love working with dogs as this brings out a whole other side of my photography, especially knowing just how to grab their attention and look right at the camera! I hope you enjoy the storyboard below showing a variety of my favorite photos from our sessions together! Of course comments are always welcome!;-)

Great blog entry Lisie! Seeing tiny Larz & big Pip next to each other is so cool! From one extreme to the other, you always know the best ways to capture great images of your subjects! And I must say, Larz had a great time in studio too! All of the excitement wore him out and he slept so well that night! Thanks again for a great session! We had a blast!

…and I can’t wait to place our order! The products you showed me are really awesome & unique too. I’m going to have a hard time choosing!

Little Lily came to our studio for a fun filled Valentine and Smash cake session! All to celebrated her big day for turning 1!! She was a blast to photograph, with so many cute smiles (& faces!) for her Mommy & Daddy!

Her Mom brought so  many cute & adorable outfits and they all coordinated so well with our backdrops and props! I think we captured Lily’s adorable & sweet personality! I put together a few collages to capture all the faces she was giving us for the camera!:-)
